Telecoms Engineer, Smart Meter Communications

About the role
A smart meter gateway is only useful if it can reach its gateway administrator reliably, including in basements and rural areas. This role plans and verifies that connectivity for metering point operators. You run coverage analysis for LTE 450 and public mobile networks, assess broadband powerline options and define fallback concepts. You work with our metering architects, the network team and the client's rollout staff, and you test installations in the field.
What you will do
- Assess connectivity options for SMGW sites: LTE 450, public LTE/5G and broadband powerline
- Run coverage predictions and field measurements, and interpret the results
- Define APN, private network and VPN concepts with mobile operators
- Analyse connection failures from gateway administration logs and propose fixes
- Document communication requirements for tenders and rollout planning
What you bring
- 3+ years in mobile or access network engineering
- Good understanding of LTE radio, core network basics and APN design
- Experience with field measurement tools and drive or walk tests
- Basic scripting in Python for log and measurement analysis
- Degree in communications engineering or a related subject
Good to have
- Experience with the 450 MHz network in Germany
- Knowledge of BPL or G3-PLC
