About the role
Grid operators across Germany are retrofitting thousands of substations to carry more renewable feed-in and to be monitored remotely. Our Grid Automation team plans and delivers that work, from specification through factory and site acceptance. In this role you configure bay controllers and gateways, build SCD files and test GOOSE and MMS communication. You work alongside protection engineers, OT security specialists and the network team, and you spend part of your time at client substations during commissioning.
What you will do
- Create and maintain SCD, ICD and CID files with vendor tools and independent SCL editors
- Configure bay controllers, RTUs and station gateways for IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104 and DNP3
- Prepare and run FAT and SAT, including GOOSE and Sampled Values tests
- Write signal lists, interface specifications and as-built documentation
- Work with OT security colleagues to apply IEC 62443 hardening to station equipment
What you bring
- 3+ years in substation automation or secondary systems engineering
- Practical experience with IEC 61850 engineering tools from at least one major vendor
- Good knowledge of IEC 60870-5-104 and station network design
- Degree in electrical engineering, automation or a comparable field
- Willingness to travel to sites in Germany, typically a few days per month
Good to have
- Experience with PRP/HSR redundancy
- Knowledge of VDE FNN guidelines for secondary technology
- Driving licence class B
