About the role
The German rollout of intelligent metering systems under the Metering Point Operation Act (MsbG) has moved into volume, and metering point operators need architectures that scale. This role sets the technical direction for those programmes. You design how smart meter gateways, gateway administration, head-end systems, MDM and SAP IS-U fit together, and you keep the design compliant with BSI TR-03109. You lead a small group of engineers and work with client rollout, IT and regulatory teams.
What you will do
- Own the solution architecture for SMGW rollout programmes, from installation processes to billing interfaces
- Design integration between gateway administration, head-end, MDM and SAP IS-U or S/4HANA Utilities
- Check designs against BSI TR-03109, the BSI protection profiles and MsbG requirements
- Guide engineers on interface design, test strategy and capacity planning
- Represent the architecture in steering meetings with clients and suppliers
What you bring
- 8+ years in metering, utility IT or energy systems, with at least 3 years in an architecture role
- Detailed knowledge of the German smart metering framework: MsbG, BSI TR-03109 and gateway administration
- Experience integrating MDM and billing systems in a utility
- Track record of leading technical teams across organisational boundaries
- German at B2 or above for client workshops and regulatory documents
Good to have
- Experience with CLS channel use cases such as controllable consumers under §14a EnWG
- TOGAF or a comparable architecture certification
