About the role

Distribution system operators need a trustworthy view of what happens below the substation, and this role builds it. You design and run pipelines for measurement, metering and asset data on platforms hosted in German sovereign cloud regions. You work with our grid automation engineers, the platform team and client operations staff, and you own data quality from source system to analytical model. Many engagements are funded through national RRF plans or CEF Energy, so traceability matters as much as throughput.

What you will do

• Design batch and streaming ingestion for SCADA historians, MDM systems and IEC 61850 event data using Kafka and Spark
• Model time-series and asset data in Delta Lake or PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB with clear ownership and documentation
• Implement data quality checks, lineage and access controls that stand up to a BSI C5 or ISO 27001 audit
• Run pipelines as code with Terraform, GitLab CI and Kubernetes on STACKIT, IONOS or Azure
• Agree data contracts with grid operations, metering and reporting teams on the client side

What you bring

• 5+ years in data engineering, at least 2 of them on production streaming workloads
• Strong Python and SQL; working knowledge of Spark or Flink
• Experience with Kafka or a comparable event broker in a regulated environment
• Hands-on infrastructure as code with Terraform and container deployment on Kubernetes
• Sound handling of time-series data, late-arriving records and backfill strategies

Good to have

• Exposure to utility systems such as SCADA, MDM or SAP IS-U
• Familiarity with CIM data models (IEC 61968/61970)
