About the role
Rollout programmes fail on details: a gateway firmware version, an antenna in the wrong place, a meter that drops its M-Bus link. Our hardware lab exists to catch those problems before they reach the field. In this role you test smart meter gateways, meters, CLS control boxes and low-voltage grid sensors, and you write integration guidance for installers. You work with our metering architects, telecoms engineers and the suppliers whose devices we assess.
What you will do
- Set up and run interoperability tests for SMGWs, electricity meters and CLS control boxes
- Test local interfaces such as wireless M-Bus, LMN and HAN, and document findings
- Evaluate low-voltage sensors and data loggers for accuracy, power use and communication
- Analyse firmware behaviour and work with suppliers on defects
- Maintain lab equipment, test procedures and safety documentation
What you bring
- 3+ years in embedded systems, metering or IoT hardware testing
- Degree in electrical engineering, electronics or a comparable field
- Practical skills with oscilloscopes, protocol analysers and lab power supplies
- Knowledge of serial and wireless protocols such as M-Bus, RS-485 or LoRaWAN
- Qualification to work safely on low-voltage installations (Elektrofachkraft or equivalent)
Good to have
- Experience with MID or PTB metrology requirements
- Embedded C or Python for test automation
