Energy Systems Modelling Researcher

Scope
Grid operators and public bodies need evidence before they commit to large investments in flexibility, storage or digital grid equipment. Our Research & Innovation team produces that evidence, mostly within Horizon Europe and national research projects. In this role you develop and calibrate models of distribution grids and regional energy systems, run scenarios and write up results for project deliverables and peer-reviewed publications. You work with consortium partners, our data engineers and the proposal team in Frankfurt.
Tasks
- Develop and calibrate energy system and power flow models with PyPSA, pandapower or comparable tools
- Build scenario sets aligned with Fit for 55 targets and national grid development plans
- Prepare input data from open sources such as ENTSO-E, Eurostat and OpenStreetMap
- Write project deliverables, technical reports and journal articles
- Contribute methods and work packages to new Horizon Europe proposals
Required
- PhD or master's degree with research experience in energy systems, power engineering or operations research
- Strong Python skills, including scientific libraries and version control
- Experience with optimisation or power flow modelling
- Publication record or written research output in English
- Comfort working in multi-partner research consortia
Additional
- Contributions to open-source energy modelling projects
- Experience with solvers such as HiGHS, Gurobi or CPLEX
Working languages
English (C1), German (B1) an advantage
